I have only the greatest admiration for all the staff at Ascent Rangeley Lakes Rehab. I have been seen by Physical Therapists and Assistants for rehab over the past 5 years. Each person I have dealt with for therapy and administration is professional and friendly, most importantly they listen. Whether it was for strengthening prior to or after surgery or a chronic neurological condition, I am always better for the rehab they provide. With Gratitude for all you do and have done.
– Marie

Physical Therapy Q & A
Q: What is physical therapy? A: Physical therapy is a non-invasive treatment approach to help improve/promote/restore health and function for individuals.
Q: Is physical therapy painful?
A: Majority of the time physical therapy should not be painful. There are times when a physical therapist has to reproduce pain during the evaluation process in order to correctly rule in/out specific impairments.
Q: What does the physical therapist do?
A: Physical therapists assess and treat musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, and integumentary system impairments through the use of non-invasive techniques.
Q: How long does a therapy session last?
A: Physical therapy sessions generally last 45 minutes.
Q: What should I wear to my therapy appointment?
Comfortable gym cloths (shorts, sweatpants, etc.) are the best thing to wear to physical therapy appointments. If you are coming in for a shoulder injury it is helpful if you wear a tank top. I usually recommend people wear athletic shoes as well
Q: Will my insurance cover PT?
A: Most of the time insurance does cover physical therapy. After an initial evaluation, we request coverage for PT appointments from your insurance company, based on your specific medical needs.
Q: Is PT just exercise?
A: No! We perform many types of interventions such as stretching, strengthening, postural modification to rehabilitate and prevent re-injury as well as manual therapy, education and exercise plan design. Therapy strives to reduce pain, increase flexibility, range of motion, and function, build strength, and correct posture.
Q: How long will it take for me to feel better?
A: It depends! Many factors dictate how long recovery will take. As therapy progresses, range of motion increases, strength and soreness diminishes. In general, patients feel better following therapy and look forward to the next session. Many soft tissue injuries (muscles + tendons) take around 6-8 weeks to heal.
